Abstract
1433824 Amphibious vehicles BEKAERT SA NV 5 June 1973 [6 June 1972] 26748/73 Heading B7A An amphibious vehicle (e.g. a caravan) with land wheels 3 retractable above the water-line has an inflatable pontoon 12 at each side which is associated with a panel 10 movable between a position in which it protects the deflated pontoon and a position in which it forms a gangway along the top of the inflated pontoon. As shown, the panels 10 are hinged to the vehicle and, in their lowered position, close storage spaces 23 for the deflated pontoons 12. The panels 10 may be provided with pivoted outboard extensions. Each wheel unit is independently retractable into a storage compartment 16 closable by a shutter 24. The hul may be of sheet steel, wood, reinforced plastics or reinforced concrete. On land, the vehicle rests on the land wheels 3 and a lead wheel (5) mounted on a removable, extendable pole (4) having a towing socket at its free end (Fig. 1, not shown).
