Abstract

1433033 Electrolytic machining GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 11 April 1973 [19 April 1972] 17431/73 Heading C7B Material is electrolytically removed from a workpiece 14 such as a turbine blade so as to provide a hole therein with an enlarged mouth. Material removal is by means of a tool comprising a first cathode 16 in an electrolyte guide-member 18 of glass and a second cathode 22 carried by the guide-member and having a dielectric coating 26. The current supplied to the first electrode 16 is at a potential sufficient to create a condition at least of incipient glow in the electrolyte. The current supplied to the electrode 22 is at a potential less than sufficient to create this condition. At incipient glow, the current begins to decrease with increasing voltage. The electrolyte flows as indicated at 12 and 32, the charged electrolyte stream 12 forming a hole in the workpiece and the second cathode 22 forming an enlarged mouth to the hole. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1159092.
