Abstract

1428751 Reinforced thermoplastic compositions GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 5 Sept 1973 [4 Oct 1972] 41713/73 Heading C3R A reinforced thermoplastic composition comprises (a) a high molecular weight normally crystalline copoly(ethylene/1,4-butylene terephthalate) which rapidly crystallizes from the melt and in which the ethylene units comprise from 1 to 20 mol. per cent and the 1,4-butylene units comprise from 80 to 99 mol. per cent, and (b) a reinforcing filler. The composition may also include a flame-retardant and polytetrafluoroethylene or fumed colloidal silica. The examples describe compositions containing (a) the above copolyester, (b) glass fibres, aluminium and bronze powders, asbestos, titanate and ceramic fibres and quartz and as flame retardant: a carbonate oligomer havng 5 repeating units derived from 2,2-bis-(3,5-dibromo-4-hydroxyphenyl)propane, antimony trioxide, hexabromobenzene, triphenylphosphine oxide, hexachlorobiphenyl and triphenyl antimony with polytetrafluoroethylene or fumed colloidal silica to render the flame-retardant compositions non- dripping while burning.
