Abstract

1428552 Platinum-siloxane complexes GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 13 Feb 1973 [16 Feb 1972] 6887/73 Addition to 1211699 Headings C3S and C3T A platinum-siloxane complex contains 2-500 Si atoms and less than 0À1 atoms of halogen per atom of Pt and has the formula wherein R is free of aliphatic unsaturation and is a monovalent hydrocarbon or halohydrocarbon radical, R<SP>1</SP> is an aliphatically unsaturated monovalent hydrocarbon or halohydrocarbon radical, R<SP>11</SP> is a radical R<SP>1</SP> chemically combined with Pt to give IR bands at 7À5-7À6 and 8À34 microns in the spectrum of the complex, n is 0 to 2, p is 0 to 2, q is 0À0002 to 3, and n+p+q is 1 to 3. It may be obtained by reaction of a corresponding unsaturated siloxane or its hydrolysable silane precursor with a platinum halide (e.g. H 2 PtCl 6 ), followed by treatment with a base to reduce the halide content. It may be mixed with an unsaturated polysiloxane to give a composition containing at least 0À01 p.p.m. of platinum, curable by reaction with, e.g. hydrogen siloxanes. In examples the siloxanes Me 2 ViSiOSiViMe 2 and [MeViSiO] 4 are reacted with H 2 PtCl 6 .6H 2 O in ethanol under N 2 at 65‹ or 75‹ C. in the presence of NaHCO 3 ; the products are stripped of volatiles and extracted with xylene to give solutions containing 0À0027 and 0À0094 Cl atoms per Pt atom.
