Abstract
1425414 Dredging apparatus SOC GENERALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES ET MECANIQUES (ALSTHOM) 15 June 1973 [20 June 1972] 28600/73 Heading E1F A suction dredging apparatus, adapted to be towed by a cable 1 along the sea-bed to recover mineral nodules, includes a scraper blade 4, and two driven wheels provided with perforated vanes 5 against which material thrown up by the blade 4 is carried; the perforations in the vanes let through all material except the nodules which, sliding to a helical guide arrangement 8 at the base of the vanes, are carried to a central hopper 9 in communication with a suction tube 10. The wheels are driven by hydraulic or electric motors and a plate 11 above and forward of the wheels guides the scraped up material against the vanes. A discharge valve 15 operated by a ram 16 allows nodules to be emptied from the tube 10 to prevent jamming in the event of the pumping stopping.
