Abstract

1425263 Matrix displays SIEMENS AG 22 Feb 1973 [23 Feb 1972] 8622/73 Heading G5C A display screen comprises a nematic liquid crystal layer 6 between two plates 1, 8, one plate carrying a matrix of electrode elements 4 on an insulating layer 3 and a supply line 2 to each element on the surface of the plate and connected to that electrode through the insulating layer, the other plate supporting one or more counter electrodes 7. A line of matrices and corresponding counter electrodes may be arranged on the plates with each supply line extending across the plate connecting corresponding elements in each matrix. Each counter electrode 7 may be a continuous layer or a matrix of interconnected elements corresponding to the elements 4. The elements 4 may be reflective.
