Abstract
142,477. Nauerz, G. April 30, 1919, [Convention date]. Column-stills and rectifiers.-The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes a process wherein a liquid, containing lighter volatile products not mixable therewith, is brought into intimate contact with a gas, allowing almost total recuperation of the said volatile products. The apparatus comprises a tower formed of a series of superposed dish-like elements c, c', c<2> in which the liquid is maintained at a constant level by overflow pipes m, n, o and in which the gas flows from one element to the next above it through pipes i each surrounded by a perforated bell h. The degree of absorption of the gas is regulated by using sets of interchangeable bells, the orifices j of which are arranged at different heights for different sets of bells. Liquid is supplied through a connexion v and flows through the apparatus in an opposite direction to that of the gas which is introduced through an inlet r and leaves through an outlet u. The elements c, c<1>, c<2> are heated by the condensation of the gas, thus producing a distillation of the volatile products which may be condensed and collected in one of the upper compartments of the apparatus, or, if the distillation is extended to the last compartment, the volatile products will be condensed and collected externally. The description of the process referred to above does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
