Abstract
1423193 Determining the disposition of a rotatable member photo-electrically EMAIL Ltd 2 April 1973 15761/73 Heading G1A The precise angular disposition of the choke vane 11 on shaft 12 of a carburetter is determined photo-electrically. Light from a lens tipped filament lamp 16 energized by a voltage regulator connected to a car battery Fig. 2 (not shown) is directed at a 70 degree arcuately shaped polarizing filter 18 mounted on a bracket 26 adapted to be securely but removably mounted on the choke vane shaft 12. Light transmitted by filter 18 passes through a fixed polarizing filter 19 to a photo-resistor receiver 20 also connected to the voltage regulator output terminals. Movement of filter 18 causes variation in the light transmitted to photo-cell 20 which in turn creates a variation in the read-out of a suitably scaled micro-ammeter or millivolt recorder connected to the photo-cell. Mounting 29 is provided so that fixed filter 19 may be rotated during calibration. A thermistor may be included in the circuit and positioned close to the photo-cell in insulating mounting holder 28 to provide a supply voltage to the lamp correction or a meter current correction.
