Abstract

1422793 Heating liquids in bulk; domestic heating supply systems F S HOWARD 2 April 1973 [15 April 1972] 17495/72 Addition to 1238712 Headings F4A and F4S A heat exchange element comprises a boss 1 adapted (e.g. as by external threading) for attachment at an aperture in a water tank 10, and a tube 8 (shown as a U-tube but which may comprise a helical coil) having ends 2, 3 slidably extending through apertures in the boss 1 and sealed therein (e.g. by packing glands as indicated in Fig. 2). In use, the tube 8 of steel or copper may be extruded with helical external fins 9 and a rifled interior surface. The tube ends for about 12 inches are plain so that the extent to which the tube projects into the tank can be determined on assembly, any excess of tubing at the ends being thereafter removed. The tube ends are connected by means (not shown) to flow and return pipes for hot water.
