Abstract
1421557 Flame resistant fibres KURARAY CO Ltd 15 March 1973 [16 March 1972] 12419/73 Heading B5B [Also in Division C3] Fibres comprising PVA of average polymerization 500-3000 and a degree of saponification of 99À5%, PVC, stannic oxide or stannic acid of particle size not exceeding 10 Á and boric acid, the weight ratio of PVA ; PVC being 90 : 10 to 55 : 45, the content of stannic oxide or acid being 0À1-5À0% (as SnO 2 ) based on the total weight of polymer and of boric acid being 0À02-0À5% based on the weight of PVA and having a tenacity above 3À5 g./d. and of hot water resistance above 110‹ C. are prepared by mixing partly saponified PVA having a degree of saponification of 88À5- 99À5% with the stannic oxide or acid and with 0À5-4À0% boric acid (based on PVA) in an aqueous solution mixing the solution with an emulsion of PVC having an average particle size of not greater than 1000Š to form a spinning solution. Spinning the solution into an alkaline bath, roller drawing, neutralizing wet heat drawing and washing the filament to adjust the boric acid content thereof to 0À02- 0À5% based on PVA, drying and dry heat drawing to a total draw ratio of at least 10 times and then shrinking the filament.
