Abstract

1421390 Vehicle washing apparatus ERIK JOHANSEN & ALLEN AS 25 Sept 1973 [29 Sept 1972] 44811/73 Heading B7J Vehicle washing apparatus comprises a gantry 1 reciprocally movable along rails 10, 11 by motors (not shown) and mounting reversibly rotatable brushes 5, 6, 7 and air blowers 8, 9 for washing the overside of a vehicle, the vehicle underside being washed from spray nozzles in pipes at floor level, these pipes being divided into opposed pairs of individual sections 17-23 each fed with pressurized liquid from pump 32 via electro magnetic valves 29, 30, 33 and pipe 31, the liquid being supplied to that pipe section only above which the gantry is situated at any instant. The sections are of varying length each shorter than the length of a vehicle to be washed and the gantry reverses its direction when the rear end of the vehicle is reached, liquid being supplied to the pipe sections during both runs of the gantry. The valves are controlled by a reversible electric step motor actuated by pulses supplied when a switch on the gantry co-acts with switch influencing means 36-41 along rail 10.
