Abstract
1420282 Automatic control of discharge machining MITSUBISHI DENKI K K 16 May 1973 [24 May 1972] 23364/73 Heading G3R In electrical discharge machining apparatus, pulses are applied between a workpiece and an electrode, each pulse comprising a plurality of different voltage levels. The width of the gap is adjusted according to the voltage level at which discharge is initiated. As shown, four steps are applied in each pulse with V 1 <V 2 <V 3 , and V 4 may be zero. If discharge occurs in time interval T i the gap is increased, if in T 2 the gap is unchanged and if in T 3 the gap is reduced. Thus the gap is adjusted until discharge occurs in interval T 2 . V 1 , V 2 (which may be variable) and V 3 may be separate D.C. sources successively connected across the gap using switching transistors 2a to 2c, Fig. 8, controlled by a logic circuit Fig. 9 (not shown). The voltage step V 2 may be replaced by a plurality of steps each maintained for predetermined intervals.
