Abstract

1412102 Floating skimmer GLACIER METAL CO LTD 2 Nov 1972 [3 Nov 1971] 51015/71 Heading B1D A device for removing floating oil from a water surface comprises four floats 21 supporting a central assembly consisting of a float 27 and a funnel 26 which define annular inlet 33 between them, a flat surface 31 extending outwards from the inlet below the surface. Oil flows from inlet 22 through apertures 30 and into outlet pipe 9 via a flexible bellows 23 which damps movement of the device. The device is used to separate lubricating oil from coolant water in a marine engine, the mixture entering a tank 11 from which water drains to adjacent tank (19) whence it is recirculated through an ejector (15), which draws the oil from pipe 9 (Fig 1, not shown) and delivers the oil-water mixture to a liquid separator (16). Separator (16) returns water to tank 11 and oil to the lubricating system via tank (17).
