Abstract

1411605 Nail strips SIGNODE CORP 14 Dec 1972 [14 Jan 1972] 57725/72 Heading B8C [Also in Divisions B3 and F2] The nails N of a nail strip S have at least one row of aligned transverse notches 16 in which is mechanically gripped an elongate metallic filament 22. The nails may have D-shaped or circular heads which may be aligned or overlapping, the notches 16 in the latter case being diagonal to the shank axis. The filament 22 has a multiplicity of serrations (24), Fig. 2 (not shown), opening at its top and bottom to facilitate severance of the filament in a nailing machine, Fig. 9 (not shown). The nail strip is made by forming notches 16 in the shanks of an aligned row of nails so displacing shank portions 20, inserting a filament 22 into the aligned notches 16, swaging the shank portions 20 to grip the filament 22, and severing the nail strip into lengths which may be coiled.
