Abstract

1410498 Cat-and-mouse I C engines E H TAUROZZI 11 Oct 1972 [11 Oct 1971] 46928/72 Heading F1F A rotary internal combustion engine of the intermittent abutment type comprises one pair of pistons 3 rotating at uniform speed and a second pair of pistons 4 rotating at variable speed, the relative movement between pistons 3,4, mounted on shafts 12, 10 respectively, being provided by arms 19, 23 fixed to shafts 12, 10 and interconnected by connecting rods 15, 20 themselves pivotally connected at 17 to form rollers 16 which are guided between cams 22, 22 so that the rollers 16 approach and recede from the engine axis to vary the angle between arms 19, 23 and hence the separation between pistons 3, 4. The four phases of the cycle occur in chambers A, B behind the uniformly rotating pistons 3, and the other chambers C, D can be used for supercharging chambers A, B, Figs. 5 and 6, (not shown). A reduction gear can be included between the pistons and arms 19, 23 Figs. 7 and 8, (not shown).
