Abstract
1408408 Antihypertensive medicines BEECHAM GROUP Ltd 24 Nov 1972 [24 Nov 1971] 54537/72 Divided out of 1366513 Heading A5B [Also in Division C2] Pharmaceutical compositions having antihypertensive activity comprise, as active ingredient, a 2-benzimidazolylcarbamonitrile of the general formula: wherein R 1 is a hydrogen atom or C 1-7 hydrocarbon group; and R 2 , R 3 , R 4 and R 5 , which may be the same or different and at least two of which must be hydrogen atoms, are each selected from hydrogen and halogen atoms and nitro, trifluoromethyl, C 1-7 alkyl, carboxyl, C 1-7 esterified carboxyl, hydroxyl, C 1-7 etherified hydroxyl, C 2-8 acylated hydroxyl, amino, di- C 1-7 alkylamino, C 2-8 acyl-amino and C 2-8 alkoxycarbonylamino groups, or a salt or solvate thereof, together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and optionally further active ingredients such as known diuretic, tranquillizing and anti-hypertensive agents. They may be administered in the form of tablets, pills, capsules, sachets, granules, powders, chewing gum, suspensions, emulsions, solutions and suppositories.
