Abstract

1408441 Locks AISIN SEIKI KK 25 Oct 1972 [26 Oct 1971 (3)] 49163/72 Heading E2A A latch comprises a bolt 6, a pawl 2 for retaining the bolt in latching postion an inside releasing lever 27, an outside releasing lever 12, a link 15 pivoted to the lever 12 movable to any one of at least two positions for selectively coupling both the releasing levers to the pawl in a first position of the link 15 and uncoupling or coupling only the lever 12 to the pawl in a second position of the link, the link 15 being moved by a tab 33 on a ratchet wheel to its second postion when the bolt is moved to fastening position. The bolt 4 is connected to a shaft pivotally mounted on a base plate 1a and supporting a ratchet wheel 3 which has teeth 7, 8 for selectively engagement by a tooth 9 of the pawl for safety or fully latching of the bolt. When the bolt is moved to locking position the tab 33 of the ratchet wheel abuts a tab 32 of the link 15 whereby pivoting the link 15 clockwise so that a foot 17 of the link moves out of alignment with a foot of the lever 27 and remains adjacent a tab 31 of the pawl whereby the inside releasing lever 27 is rendered inoperative and the outside releasing lever 12 remains operative. The link 15 is connected by a pin 19 and slot 16 to a locking lever 18 whereby pivoting clockwise the link 15 pivots the lever 18 anticlockwise. When the locking lever 18 is actuated, the link 15 is moved further clockwise so that the foot 17 also moves away from the pawl tab 31 whereby the outside and inside releasing levers 12, 27 are rendered inoperative. The locking lever 18 has two shoulders which selectively engage with a projecting central portion of a spring 26 and the base plate to retain the lever inoperative, partially operative or fully operative. In a modification the locking lever has one shoulder and is held in an inoperative or operative postion. When the door is closed with the locking lever 18 actuated, Fig 3 turning of the ratchet wheel pivots the pawl so that a tab 34 thereon abuts a foot 35 of the link so that the link is displaced to operative position with its foot 17 adjacent the tab 31 thus rendering the outside releasing lever 12 operative. For keyless locking; the locking lever 18 is actuated and the releasing lever 12 is actuated as the door is closed so that the link foot 35 is out of alignment with the pawl tab 34 and both outside and inside releasing levers are disconnected from the pawl. In another embodiment Fig 4 (not shown) both releasing levers are rendered inoperative when the latch is operative by a modification of the pawl whereby the tab 31 is also out of the path of the foot 17 of the link 15, when the door is closed.
