Abstract

1405373 Jointing by forging STRICON PRODUCTS Ltd 8 May 1973 [9 May 1972] 21801/73 Heading B3H [Also in Division F2] An apparatus for swaging a slicer sleeve on to the aligned ends of reinforcing rods 126, 130 comprises a fixed die 22 on an anvil block 46, a movable die 20 connected to an actuator to define a closed cylinder with the fixed die in their together position and a support 124 which grips one of the reinforcing rods. The dies have annular ribs to deform the sleeve. The actuator is hydraulically operated and comprises a piston-cylinder unit 58 whose piston-rod is connected to a plate 59 slidable on guide rods 38, 40, 42 and on which the die 20 is mounted. The anvil block 46 has slots 106, 110 to enable rapid removal for die changing. The support 124 is provided with hydraulically operated jaws 132, 142 to grip the reinforcing rod. The apparatus is axially movable by an actuator 138. The sleeve is made of steel and heated to between 1600‹ and 1850‹ F. before deformation.
