Abstract

1404407 Coating apparatus LOCTITE CORP 14 Feb 1973 [14 Feb 1972] 7188/73 Heading B2L [Also in Division B8] Bolts having shanks which are to be coated are fed from a hopper 12 and chute 14 to a conveyor 10 on which they are supported as they pass an escapement mechanism 24 which separates them by predetermined distances, a coating head 26, a smoothing head 28 and a spray 30 which applies a hardening agent to the coating on the shank. The conveyor comprises two wires 18, 20 the wire 18 being driven and the other stationary so that the bolts are supported as in Fig 2a and are rotated the elements being closer together at the coating station than away from it. Coating material is fed to a zig-zag slot in a coating head 26 in contact with the shank and the coating is smoothed by a smoothing surface 28. Rollers 52, 54 ensure the bolt is tightly held. Excess coating material on the shank below the required level is removed by suction at the head 26.
