Abstract
1403960 Cable insulating compositions ANACONDA CO 18 Oct 1973 [29 Dec 1972] 48611/73 Heading C3P [Also in Division H1] The cable comprises two distinguishable but bonded insulation layers 13, 14 the inner one mainly of a terpolymer rubber or ethylenepropylene copolymer, the other of mainly crosslinked polyethylene, both layers having a common cross-linking agent such as di-α- vinyl peroxide. The insulation layers surround a metallic conductor 11 sheathed in semiconducting polymeric material 12, and are surrounded by a semi-conducting polymeric jacket 21 having drain wires 22 embedded therein. Alternatively, the insulation layers 13, 14 can be covered by an insulation shielding layer (66, Fig. 1, not shown) overlaid by Cu or Al tapes (17) covered, in turn, by a protective jacket (18). The rubber layer may contain up to 30% by weight of cross-linked polyethylene and similarly the polyethylene layer may contain up to 30% by weight of rubber. Clay and other materials may be included in the layers. An example of a terpolymer rubber given is ethylene - propylene - 1,4 - hexadiene with the following: carbon black, silicone treated clay, lead monoxide, silane, antioxidant, zinc oxide, paraffinic oil, paraffin, di-α-cumyl peroxide, sulphur. An example of ethylene-propylene copolymer given is ethylene-propylene with the following: zinc oxide, silicone treated clay, carbon black, polymerized trimethyldihydroquinoline, PbO 2 , silane, di-α-cumyl peroxide, sulphur.
