Abstract

1403768 Rearranging filter plugs HAUNNIWERKE KORBER & CO KG 27 Nov 1972 [26 Nov 1971 17 May 1972] 54732/72 Heading A2C An apparatus for rearranging rod-like articles, such as double length filter plugs 38a, 38b, 38c lying in line axially adjacent one to the other, comprises a collating conveyor on which the filter plugs are conveyed transveresly to their long axes, and the filter plugs 38a, 38b, 38c of one line travel through different length paths per unit time to peripherally offset them from each other, and a rearranging conveyor by which the plugs 38a, 38b, 38c supplied peripherally offset in three rows A, B, C in line ahead are shifted, during their further conveyance transversely to their long axes into a single desired row B, wherein the rearranging conveyor is a drum 9 having grooves 36a, 36b, 36c which are deeper than the diameter of the filter plugs, and wherein the grooves are associated with a radial sealing means 37a, with means for supplying air suction by which the filter plugs 38a, 38c not disposed in the desired row B are conveyed into it and with axial sealing means 37b. The suction is applied through bores in the drum 9 terminating in the bottom of the grooves 36a, 36b, 36c. In another embodiment, Figs 4, 5 (not shown), the grooves 36a, 36c, in which the filter plugs 38a, 38c are shifted, are associated with abutments for locating the shifted filter plugs, which abutments also serve as axial seals for the grooves. The collating conveyor, Figs 6, 7 (not shown), comprises a drum with holders for the filter plugs constructed as rolling tracks of different lengths, and is associated with a counter rolling surface so that during their conveyance the filter plugs are rolled backwards by different amounts, according to which row A, B or C they are in, in opposition to the conveyance direction.
