Abstract
1401772 Continuous rotary filter SIMONACCO Ltd 18 Oct 1972 [18 Nov 1971] 53526/ 71 Heading B1D In a method of filtering a slurry using a rotary filter of the disc or drum type having a number of sectors or segments, each sector or segment passes successively through a pickup zone wherein a vacuum is applied to draw liquid from a bath containing the slurry into the sector or segment such that a filter cake is built up on the surface of the sector or segment and the sector or segment is substantially filled with liquid, a discharge zone wherein the interior of the sector or segment is pressurised to remove a portion of the liquid through the surface and thus remove the filter cake, and a further zone wherein the remaining liquid in the sector or segment is drained therefrom e.g. by suction: In the embodiment shewn a rotary disc filter ismounted in a bath 17. Each disc filter 10 comprises segments 12 in communication with ducts 15 extending lengthwise of the rotary shaft 11. At one end of the shaft 11 is a stationary member 19 having ports 20, 22, 21, ports 20 and 21 being connected with vacuum means (not shown) and port 22 with compressed gas or pressurised water source (not shown). As the drum rotates the ducts coincide with ports 20, 22, 21. Chutes 18 positioned between discs 10 receive removed filter cake. Some of the chutes may be provided with pivotable flaps for deflecting removed filtered cake back in to bath 17. The removed filter cake may be discharged to a conveyor. A piston may be mounted in each sector, the piston being operated to apply pressure to remove the filter cakes from the sector. Water may be sprayed onto the outer surfaces of the discs to aid removal of the filter cake. In a rotary drum filter a chute receiving removed filter cake may be provided with gaps to return filter cake to the bath. The chute may be adjustable along the length of the bath.
