Abstract

1488802 Feeding sliver to a comber TSENTRAL N I INST SHERSTYANOI PROMYSHLENNOSTI 23 March 1976 11712/76 Heading DIN Slivers are fed to a nip comber by arranging them in one row or in two rows with the slivers of the second row laterally displaced relative to those of the first row and shaping each to an elliptical cross-section, flattening them to a rectangular cross-section in which they are stabilized by heating and combining them to form a lap which is advanced to the nip comber. The rows are formed and the elliptical shape produced by a board 10 with elliptical holes and the flattening is by a roller pair 13 and then spring loaded plates 19 located in guide channels 18 over a heated guide table 14. A feed box 6 precombs the lap which is held by nippers 28, 29. Separators 17 between channels 18 are no greater than 2 mm. The board 10 illustrated has two rows of elliptical holes, the holes of one row being displaced by <SP>2</SP>/ 3 of a major diameter with respect to the holes of the other row.
