Abstract
1486062 Separable end stop for sliding clasp fasteners TEXTRON INC 21 Feb 1975 [22 Feb 1974] 7334/75 Heading E2S A separable end stop, for a sliding clasp fastener 10 comprising a support member 26 to be attached to one stringer tape 12 of a fastener, a pin member 28 to be attached to a second stringer tape 14 and a retainer 30 to be permanently secured to the support member 26 and to receive a leg 46 of the pin member 28 retractably, is characterised in that the retainer has a channel 86 to receive the leg 46 and the support member 26 has a wedge-shaped head 40 to enter a correspondingly-shaped pocket 102 in the retainer 30, the pocket having a mouth such that the head 40 is retained in the pocket 40 after being forced through the mouth. As shown, gaps 116, 118, free of fastener elements 16, 18, are formed at the lower ends of the two tapes 12, 14, Fig. 7, and a slider 20, and retainer 30 are threaded, in turn, over the fastener elements 16, the support member 26, made e.g. of plastics, then being secured, e.g. by supersonic welding to the gapped portion 116 of the tape 12 whereupon the retainer 30, made of metal, is pushed down over the support member 26 until the end of the head portion 40 snaps behind a pair of bosses 108, 110 on upper and lower wings 60, 62 of the retainer and into the pocket 102 firmly to lock the support member 26 in the retainer 30. Islands 112, 114, which project from a partition 64 which interconnects the wings 60, 62 bear against the straight side 34 of the support member 26, a recess 98 between the islands 112, 114, facilitating the passage of the fastener elements 16 through a channel 84 during the initial assembly. The lower end of the face 34 engages bosses 104, 106 which project from the partition 64, which with the wings 60, 62 and flanges 68, 72 define the channel 86 which is adapted removably to receive the pin 28 which is made e.g of plastics and which is secured to the gapped end portion 118 of the tape 14. The pin 28 has a tongue 54 with a guide tooth 56 which is adapted in the assembled condition of the end stop, to be received in a corresponding groove 44 in a flange 42 which extends from a shank portion 32 of the support member 26. The latter and the pin 28 each have flap 58, the flap of the support member 26 being secured to the tape 12.
