1484867 Photographic film having antistatic layer IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 28 Jan 1975 [21 Feb 1974] 7871/74 Heading G2C Photographic film comprises a synthetic plastics support, e.g. of polyethylene terephthalate, having coated thereon in order a gelatine subbing layer and a radiation sensitive layer, e.g. a light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer, there being contained in the subbing layer or in a layer between the subbing layer and the radiation-sensitive layer an antistatic polymer or copolymer containing units of the Formula:- where R is H or CH 3 , R<SP>1</SP> is CH 3 or C 2 H 5 , R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are each CH 3 or C 2 H 5 or R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> together are -CH 2 CH 2 OCH 2 CH 2 - or -(CH 2 ) n - where n is 4, 5 or 6, A is alkylene or substituted alkylene and X<SP>-</SP> is a chloride or acetate ion. The containing copolymeric units selected from styrene, methyl methacrylate, methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, butyl acrylate, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, acrylonitrile, vinyl toluene, vinyl acetate, #-ethoxyethyl methacrylate, #-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, acrylamide, diacetone acrylamide, ethylene, propylene and divinyl benzene, said polymer or copolymer having an average molecular weight in the range 5,000 to 2,000,000.
