Abstract
1481937 Melt spinning polyamides and polypropylene METALLGESELLSCHAFT AG 31 Dec 1975 [16 Jan 1975] 53334/75 Heading B5B Filaments of polyamides or polypropylene having a denier of 8 to 25 are formed by melt spinning, taking off the filaments at a speed of 3000 to 6000 metres per min. with a stretch ratio of 200 : 1 to 2000 : 1 cooling the formed filaments optionally coating and texturing them without further stretching. Polyamide filaments are cooled to at least at surface temperature of 100‹ C and passed through an atmosphere of water vapour before being combined into a tow. The residence time t in milliseconds of each portion of a filament having a denier T is selected to that where a is 0 or a number up to 10. Filaments 4 travel through a cooling chamber 5 into which air at 20‹ C is sucked through duct 6 and a perforated wall 7 and blown against the filaments. Polyamide filaments travel through a downtake chamber 8 into which water vapour is admitted through conduit 9 and nozzle 10. The filaments are taken off through tow forming guides 11 and 12 and coated with an oil containing emulsion by means of two forked filament oilers 13 and 14 before being wound-up.
