Abstract

1479753 Gas filter C A NORGREN Ltd 20 June 1974 27433/74 Headings BID and BIT A filter/coalescer for a compressed air line comprises a head 1 with an inlet 2 and outlet 3, a bowl 13 of metal or transparent material and an upstream coarse filter element 12 located within a downstream fine filter element 11, at least one of the elements being clamped axially against the head. As shown, a rod 20 extends from the head 1, an end closure 22 screwed onto the rod clamps element 12 against surface 7, and an end closure 24 is also screwed to the rod to clamp element 11 against shoulder 18. The end closures may be detachable from or integral with their filter elements and could be retained by nuts on rod 20 instead of screwing directly thereto. The filter elements retain solids and coalesce liquid which collects in bowl 13. A second bowl 28 may be connected between element 11 and outlet 3 and contains absorbent and liquid indicator layers. The head 1 has a frustoconical surface 4 and is clamped into a bore of similar shape in a support 8 by a screwed ring 9. Inlet 2 and outlet 3 then align with ducts in support 8 to which the air line is connected. In an alternative construction (not illustrated) a cylindrical cage located between the filter elements 11, 12 has a lower end plate which closes the end of element 12 and an upper end screwed to body 1 to clamp element 12 thereto. The fine and coarse elements preferably retain particles over 0.3 and 25 microns respectively.
