Abstract

1479101 Ignition systems; timing ignition DUCELLIER & CIE 3 Jan 1975 [15 Jan 1974] 224/75 Heading F1B In an ignition distributer for an internal combustion engine of the type having a drive-shaft 1 driven by the engine, which carries a part to be detected 6, 7 and a proximity detector 15 and a rotor arm 4 for distributing high voltage pulses generated by an ignition coil (not shown) to the engine spark-plugs, the part to be detected 6, 7 and the proximity detector 15 are mounted respectively on the drive-shaft and in the distributer housing in such a way as to allow relative axial movement between them and the part to be detected 6, 7 has a predetermined shape which in combination with the relative axial movement enables the start of the energizing of the ignition coil, the duration of the energizing of the ignition coil and the moment of triggering of the ignition spark to be varied as a function of engine speed, as required. As shown the part to be detected is mounted on a sleeve 5 and a centrifugal regulator driven by the drive-shaft 1 is arranged to move the sleeve along the shaft as the engine speed varies. The proximity detector comprises a reading head 16 and is mounted on an advance plate 14 which is rotatable in use by the depression in the inlet manifold of the engine. The depression operated advance device may be omitted.
