Abstract

1478852 Tensioning railway rails; clamps GREENSIDE HYDRAULICS Ltd 20 Aug 1974 [27 Oct 1973] 50116/73 Headings E1G and E2A A device for tensioning rails to be welded together comprises a pair of clamping heads 12, 13 each having a fixed jaw 14 and a pivoted movable jaw 15 which is urged towards the fixed jaw by the action of hydraulic rams 16, 18 connected between the two clamping heads. The device may be extended by any number of tie bars 17, 19. Each clamping head, Fig. 3, comprises a pair of spaced plates 20, 21 between which the fixed jaw 14 and movable jaw are mounted. The movable jaw is demountably pivoted about a pin 37, and the jaw plate 44 is pivotally mounted on the movable jaw, Fig. 2 (not shown). The fixed jaw plate 24 is replaceable being secured by screws 25. The clamping heads are releasably connected to the rams or tie bars by clevises.
