Abstract
1476488 Cooling towers TRANSELEKTRO MAGYAR VILLAMOSSAGI KULKERESKEDELMI VALLALAT 5 Sept 1974 [6 Sept 1973] 38767/74 Heading F4S A method for augmenting the draught in a natural-draught cooling tower used for dispersing in a heat exchanger at the base of the tower heat produced in the operation of a heat engine or machine generating a hot gas into the tower whereby the natural draught therein is increased. In the form shown, heat generated in the operation of a gas turbine plant (e.g. in the bearings or in the compression of air, Fig. 1) is removed in known manner by a liquid or gaseous cooling medium circulated through a heat exchanger cooled by an ambient air stream passing into and through the tower. The heat exchanger may be diposed around the tower periphery of the tower (Fig. 3) or as shown the heat exchanger, 34, may be disposed within the tower. The hot gas from the gas turbine engine is conveyed via a duct 37 to a dispersal device 35 positioned above the heat exchanger 34 and shown as consisting of a hollow chamber with perforations 35A in its upper wall. From the dispersal device 35 the hot gas passes via the openings 35A into the cooling air stream within the tower. The cooling tower draught may be regulated by controlling through a valve 41 the amount of hot gas released into the tower, the remaining gas passing out of the tower through a pipe 42.
