Abstract
1475368 Copolymers and terpolymers of ethylene CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS AG 4 Oct 1974 [5 Oct 1973] 43087/74 Heading C3P A thermoplastic low density copolymer or terpolymer of ethylene with butene-1 and/or propylene is prepared by polymerization in a solvent which contains butene-2, butane and/or propane and a total of up to 20 mole per cent of butene-1 and/or propylene using a catalyst comprising TiCl 3 and an aluminium trialkyl or dialkyl hydride. The latter may be triethyl, tripropyl, tri-n-butyl or tri-isobutyl aluminium. In the examples ethylene is copolymerized with butene-1 in the presence or absence of hydrogen in the presence of cis and trans butene-2 and n- 2 and n-butane with or without iso-butane using triethylaluminium or tri-n-butyl aluminium and TiCl 3 O.3AlCl 3 or TiCl 4 reduced with aluminium sesquichloride to form TiCl 3 O.5AlCl 3 or is copolymerized with butene-1 and propylene in the presence of hydrogen, propane, butane and cis and trans butene-2 using triethyaluminium and TiCl 3 O.3AlCl 3 .
