Abstract
1472796 Controlling fuel supply to vehicle engines DAIMLER-BENZ AG 25 April 1974 [2 May 1973] 18178/74 Heading B7H [Also in Division F1] A system for controlling the fuel supply to a vehicle engine comprises a fuel-injection pump 3 having a regulating rod 25 movable in response to the action of a governor 29 and to the pivotal movement of lever 26 fast with lever 2. Movement of the latter is effected by operation of an accelerator pedal connected to that lever via a piston and cylinder assembly 5 and a lever arrangement 6 which, when the pedal is released, is held against a stop 22 by action of a return spring (24) (Fig. 3, not shown). The assembly 5 comprises a piston 9 movable against bias of spring 8 by exhaust gases entering via port 12 when an exhaust brake is activated, and a rod 11 connected to the lever 2 and biased by spring 10 to the illustrated position within piston 9. When the accelerator pedal is released and the exhaust brake is applied, the arm 20 will abut stop 22 and the piston 9 and rod 11 will be retracted together within the cylinder until the level 2 attains its stop position II. The position 9 then moves alone to abut the end of the cylinder. If the accelerator pedal and the brake are operated at the same time, the lever 2 will still be held in its stop position. When the brake is released and the accelerator pedal 1 is depressed the lever will move from its no-load position I towards a full-load position III. In the event that the vehicle overruns the engine, and the pedal 4 is in its rest position, governor 29 will pivot lever 27 to move rod 25 to zero delivery stop 25a and subsequently bring lever 2 to its full load position III. Actuation of the exhaust brake will cause the lever 2 to be moved towards its stop position II.
