Abstract
1469646 Moulding reducing and connecting pipes GRANGES ESSEM PLAST AS 19 March 1974 [19 March 1973] 12130/74 Heading B5A A method for producing reducing or connecting pipes and pipe fittings comprises passing a tube 13 extruded from a die 1 through a temperature-controlled sizing die 8 composed of sections, e.g. 8-8<SP>11</SP> of different cross-sections and inflating the tube against at least one of the sections 8-8<SP>11</SP>. Various sections of the sizing die may be brought into operation by either sliding the sizing die over the extrusion die (see Fig. 1a, for example) and/or by controlling the temperature of a section to thereby control the plasticity of the tube. The sections of the sizing die may either rotate relative to one another (as disclosed for example with respect to Figs. 4-6, not shown) and/or move relative to one another along the axis of the die. Each section may comprise a plurality of segments each of which has its temperature individually controlled. The wall thickness of or formation of flanges (15<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 3) on the tube may be controlled by varying the haul-off and/or extrusion rate from the die 1. The sections of the die may be circular (as shown) or non-circular (Figs. 4-6) in cross-section and may be interconnected by straight portions 7 or tapered portions (14<SP>11</SP>, Fig. 2). The tube may be cut down-stream of the sizing die to form individual pipe fittings. Tubing having socket portions (Fig. 1c), flanges (15<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 3) and flat portions (17<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 7) for T-pieces is described.
