Abstract

1469254 Hydrogenated styrene oligomer compositions BASF AG 6 Aug 1974 [7 Aug 1973] 34581/74 Heading C3P Compositions suitable for use as additive concentrates for thermoplastics materials comprise (A) 5 to 90 weight per cent of additive, (B) 95 to 10 weight per cent of a hydrogenated " styrene " oligomer of average molecular weight 300 to 10,000 and (C) 0 to 60 weight per cent of a styrene polymer. The oligomer may be derived from styrene, α-methyl styrene and/or vinyl toluene, and may be hydrogenated in the presence of conventional catalysts. The additive may be a pigment, brightener, filler, flameproofing agent, stabilizer, antistatic agent or lubricant. The concentrates may be blended with styrene polymers, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride or polymethyl methacrylate. In examples polystyrene is blended with (1) titanium dioxide and a concentrate of hydrogenated styrene oligomer and phthalocyanine blue, and with (2) carbon black and a concentrate of hydrogenated styrene oligomer and titanium dioxide.
