Abstract

1465475 Lavatory cleansing composition CIBA-GEIGY AG 23 May 1974 [23 Feb 1973] 8867/73 Heading C5D A tablet or block of cleansing composition, which may be immersed in the water of a cistern supplying flushing water to a lavatory bowl or urinal, comprises (a) 60-95% by weight, calculated on the total weight of the composition, of at least one biodegradable hydrophobic material selected from alkanolamides of fatty acids, ethoxylates of fatty alcohols and ethoxylates of fatty acids, the ethoxylate moiety having 8-15 (especially 11-14) ethylene oxide units per mole and (b) 5-40% by weight, calculated on the total weight of the composition, of at least one compound selected from straight or branched chain alkyl benzene sulphonates and ethoxylates of fatty alcohols wherein the ethoxylate moiety contains more than 16 ethylene oxide units per mole. The composition may also contain disinfectant such as halogenated ohydroxy-diphenylethers (e.g. 2,4,4<SP>1</SP>-trichloro- 2<SP>1</SP> - hydroxy - diphenylether) and derivatives thereof wherein one or both of the benzene rings carry specified substituents and/or the hydroxyl group is acylated, halogenated alkyl phenols, quaternary ammonium compounds or chlor-substituted bisphenols (e.g. hexachlorophene). In addition, the composition may contain dyes, perfumes, optical brightening agents, sequestering agents, corrosion inhibitors, fungicides and enzymes. In the examples, ingredient (a) is ethoxylated cetyl stearyl alcohol (II E.O. units), ethoxylated decyl alcohol (8 E.O. units), ethoxylated docosyl alcohol (15 E.O. units), ethoxylated coconut fatty acid (11 E.O. units), ethoxylated docosanoic acid (11 E.O. units) or a blend of coconut monoalkanolamide and coconut dialkanolamide, while ingredient (b) is ethoxylated cetyl stearyl alcohol (50 E.O. units), ethoxylated tallow alcohol (50 E.O. units), ethoxylated decyl alcohol (40 E.O. units), ethoxylated docosyl alcohol (50 E.O. units), eicosyl benzene sulphonate, ethyl benzene sulphonate or isooctyl benzene sulphonate. Chlorinated copper phthalocyanine may be employed as green dye.
