Abstract

1462840 Childproof closure ALUMINUM CO OF AMERICA 17 Sept 1974 [3 Oct 1973] 40498/74 Heading B8T An internally threaded moulded plastics safety closure 10 comprises an integral resiliently deflectable annular band 12 rigidly connected to the bottom of the closure skirt 14 by at least one bridge 16, and the at least one ratchet tooth 22 has a vertical surface 23 for engagement against vertical surfaces 38 on the container teeth 34 to prevent unscrewing of the closure unless said band is deflected upwardly to disengage said tooth or teeth 22. Knurling on the skirt 14 and band 12 or outwardly extending flanges on the band 12 aid gripping of the closure. The band 12 is deflected either by pulling upwardly or squeezing the ring at diametrically opposite points when the camming action of teeth 22 on the surface 40 causes the ring to move upwardly. There are preferably two diametrically opposite series of teeth 22 and two, four or two series of teeth 34, their spacing and number being adjusted to improve the locking engagement with teeth 22. A depending flange on the band 12 may conceal the teeth 22 from external view and inclined surfaces on complementary peripheral edges of the skirt 14 and band 12 may be provided to coact and to cam the band upwardly when it is squeezed. The closure may be have a sealing disc.
