Abstract

1462003 Automatic exchange systems STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 9 Jan 1975 929/75 Heading H4K In an automatic exchange system having a common control, each subscriber's terminal, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), includes a store (SRA) into which digits characterizing a wanted subscriber's line are entered by means of a digit sender (DK). When the entire called number has been entered into the store the caller actuates an end-of-selection means (EOSK) which transmits a "ready-to-send" signal to the exchange in response to which the common control, when it is ready to process the call, sends back to the terminal a "proceed to send" signal which causes the wanted number to be sent to the exchange to enable call establishment. Preferably the store into which the digits are entered, e.g. as an 8-bit code, is a circulating (i.e. non-destructive) one, so that if a called line is engaged a subsequent attempt to establish a connection may be made merely by actuating the end-of-selection means. The system, which operates in TDM manner using PCM, may transmit either speech or data, using an exchange such as that disclosed in Specification 1,444,804.
