Abstract
1461776 Centrifugal fans BRITISH GAS CORP 2 Sept 1974 [4 June 1973] 26473/73 Heading F1C A centrifugal fan comprises a series of frustoconical or, as shown, flat impeller discs 1 having openings at or spaced outwardly from their centres and mounted on a rotatable carrier 3, and a casing 6 having an inlet 9 for admitting air to the openings and an outlet 7, the width of the spaces between adjacent discs and the rotational speed being such that the flow through the spaces is laminar. The openings 15 in the discs may be segmental, as shown, or circular. The openings 15 and a fastening disc 14 may be omitted, annular spacers 13 then being replaced by spacer washers around fixing bolts, and the air then entering the spaces between the discs at the inner periphery of the discs. The width of each space is between 0À25 and 2 mm, preferably 0.5 to 1 mm, the impeller speed being 3,000 rev./min. The casing 6 is of volute form giving a degree of diffusion just sufficient to offset the loss of pressure due to friction in the volute.
