1461528 Removing albumin from aqueous fluids; dextran-dye conjugates RESEARCH CORP 9 Sept 1974 [10 Sept 1973] 39345/74 Headings C3H and C3U A method of removing albumin from substantially cell-free aqueous fluids comprises (a) suspending a composition of general formula [SP] x -[CRD] where CRD is the residue of a colour reactive dye of the Formula I wherein R 3 is alkyl, phenyl, alkoxyphenyl, alkyl phenyl, or hydrogen, R 1 is hydrogen, an alkali metal ion or an alkaline earth metal ion, R 2 is halide or -o-dextran, Z 1 is [-H] 2 or-CH=CH-CH=CH-, Z 2 is one bond of a nitrogen-nitrogen double bond or a hydrogen atom attached to the nitrogen atom shown only, Q is substituted or unsubstituted aryl where Z 2 is hydrogen or an unsubstituted aryl-N= where Z 2 constitutes a double bond, provided that the substituent groups aforesaid are other than halide or heavy metal (i.e. of groups other than 1 or 2A) and wherein SP is a solid support phase selected from agarose, polyacrylamide, and acrylic resin containing amino groups and x is expressed as a weight ratio of SP to CRD of between 0À8 and 40, in a buffer of at least 0À05 M molarity at a pH of 6À5 to 8À5; (b) contacting said suspension with said albumin containing fluid to provide a suspension having albumin adsorbed upon the solid phase thereof; (c) separating the solid-phase-albumin adsorbate from the aqueous phase. The preferred dyestuffs are Blue Dextran and those dyestuffs identified by the designations Cibacron (Registered Trade Mark) orange, Procion (Registered Trade Mark) brilliant orange, Cibacron brilliant blue, Cibacron blue, Procion blue, Cibacron brilliant red, Procion brilliant red, Cibacron brown, Procion orange brown, Cibacron scarlet, and Procion scarlet. The preferred conjugate has the formula
