Abstract

1460128 Thermoplastics-siloxane compositions DOW CORNING CORP 21 May 1975 [10 June 1974] 21777/75 Headings C3P and C3T Compositions comprise (A) 90 to 99À9 weight per cent of a thermoplastic material and (B) 0À1 to 10 weight per cent of a carboxyfunctional siloxane composed of 0À1 to 50 mole per cent of R a R<SP>1</SP> b SiO (4-a-b)/2 units and 50 to 99À9 mole per cent of R<SP>11</SP> c SiO (4-c)/2 units where R is a carboxy functional radical, and has an average value of 1 to 3, R<SP>1</SP> is a hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon radical, b has an average value of 0 to 2, the sum of a and b is 1 to 3, R<SP>11</SP> is a hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon radical and c is 0 to 3. The thermoplastic may be a polystyrene, polyolefin, polyvinyl halide, fluorocarbon, polyamide, polyurethane, cellulosic, acrylic, polyolefin sulphide, phenolic, polycarbonate, polysulphone, acetal, polyxylylene, polyoxyalkylene, polyarylene oxide, ABS, styrene/acrylonitrile or styrene/acrylonitrile/ silicone resin, and the compositions may be moulded into bottle closures of improved lubricity. Examples describe compositions of polystyrene with trimethylsilyl terminated siloxanes containing (CH 3 ) 2 SiO units and units.
