Abstract

1459638 Curing epoxy resins DOW CHEMICAL CO 24 April 1974 17943/74 Heading C3B A curable composition comprises: (I) an epoxy resin, (II) an aromatic disulphonamide as latent curing agent, and (III) an accelerator selected from phosphonium salts, imidazoles, ammonium salts, alkali metal hydroxides and salts of II with tertiary amines or hydrocarbon substituted phosphines. The components are present so as to provide an amine hydrogen to epoxy equivalent ratio of at least 0À9 : 1. I may be a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A. An example of II is diphenylether-4,4<SP>1</SP>-disulphonamide (IV). Examples of III which may be present at 0À5-1% by wt. based on I+II are 2-methylimidazole (V), ethyltriphenylphosphonium acetate, acetic acid complex, a salt of IV with V, with triethylenediamine, triethanolamine, triethylamine or hexamethylenetetramine.
