Abstract

1456226 Charging batteries HARMER & SIMMONS Ltd 11 Sept 1974 [6 Dec 1973] 56591/73 Heading H2H A system for maintaining the charge of a battery 10 after the main charge has been completed comprises a circuit 13 for detecting the level of the battery voltage on open circuit which circuit provides one signal to a two signal AND gate 15 when the battery voltage on open circuit falls to a predetermined level and a clock timing device 16 which is actuated as soon as the charging device 11 is disconnected from the battery 10 and provides a second signal to the AND gate 15 a predetermined time, e.g. 15 minutes, thereafter, the two input signals to the AND gate causing an output therefrom which energizes a timer 17 which closes a switch 17 for a predetermined period, e.g. two minutes. Thus whenever the voltage of the battery 10 falls to a predetermined level it is connected to the charging device 11 for a period of, say, two minutes, the clock timing device 16 ensuring that the reconnection of the battery after the previous disconnection is prevented for an interval of, say, fifteen minutes.
