Abstract

1455398 Transformers and inductors W ZUMTOBEL 13 June 1974 [14 June 1973] 26286/74 Heading HIT A transformer or choke has a magnetic core comprising two yokes formed of U-shaped laminations 1 and an inner core formed of laminations 3, the shapes of the laminations being such that they can be stamped as shown in Fig. 2 from sheet metal strip. Rebates 7 may accommodate longitudinal clamping bolts (not shown) or cooling elements 10, 11. Further cooling elements may be clamped to the end faces. The rebates 7 may be undercut to accept retaining clips. In stamping the laminations from sheet metal strip, both yoke and inner core laminations are aligned with their magnetic axes preponderantly in the preferred magnetic direction of the strip. Laminations 3 are stamped out first leaving apertures for receiving guide members for positioning of the strip during stamping out of the yoke laminations 1, the edge 13 with flashes 13<SP>1</SP> being cut-off along line 13<SP>11</SP> at the same time.
