Abstract
1452916 Liquid cargo transfer apparatus COFLEXIP 8 Nov 1973 [9 Nov 1972] 52002/73 Heading B8E [Also in Division E1] Apparatus for piping liquid from a sea-bed pipe, e.g. from an oil well, to a floating or semisubmersible platform for loading into a ship comprises a platform 1 having reservoirs for the liquid anchored in a fixed position, a sinker 4, and an air-tank 10 submerged sufficiently to be unaffected by swell. The sea-bed pipe 7 is connected at the sinker 4 to flexible pipes 8, 9 held vertical and in tension by the air-tank 10 connected in turn to the platform 1 by flexible pipes 11, 12. Alternatively Fig. 2 the air-tank 10 is connected to the platform 1 by an arm 13 having hinge connections 14, 16 at its end and the pipe connection is made by pipes 19 flexible at least adjacent the hinges. Two processes are described for positioning the sinker 4 and making the necessary pipe connections once the platform 1 is in position. In the first process the sinker 4 is initially a float and the pipes 7, 8, 9 are connected thereto on the surface after which the sinker is sunk under contral to the sea-bed where concrete is introduced through a pipe 24, Fig. 6, to anchor the sinker. In an alternative process, Fig. 7, the sinker 4 is connected to the air-tank 10 by guide cables 23 which allow flange connectors on the pipes 7, 8 to be guided to the sea-bed by eyelets 25 engaging them so that connection of the pipes can thereafter be remotely effected.
