Abstract

1452075 Spray carburetters HONDA GIKEN KOGYO KK 26 Nov 1973 [27 Nov 1972] 54689/73 Heading F1H [Also in Division F2] The damper 8 retarding the closing of a throttle valve 2 Fig. I in an I.C. engine is rendered ineffective when the ignition switch (39), Fig. 3 (not shown) is opened, to enable rapid closing of the throttle valve 2 by the spring 7. The damper 8 (see also Division F2) is actuated by a control lever 3 attached to the throttle valve 2. With the ignition switch in the closed position, an energized solenoid 27 holds a valve element 24, against the bias of a spring 25, in a position (dotted lines) to close a rapid exhaust passage 23 of the damper. The throttle valve closes at a rate determined by the exhaust of air through a constriction 17. When the ignition switch is opened, the solenoid 27 is de-energized and the spring 25 moves the valve element 24 to open the rapid exhaust passage 23 and exhaust the working chamber 13 of the damper. The throttle valve 2 can therefore close rapidly. A further solenoid operated valve element 35 Fig. 2 is provided to ensure that a fuel supply passage 34, to a duct 30 for supplying precombustion chambers, is blocked when the ignition switch is opened. With the ignition switch closed, the energized solenoid 37 holds the valve element 35 in the open position, and a spring 38 biases it into the closed position when the ignition is turned off.
