1450538 Reciprocating pumps and motors; intensifiers MARSHALL HYDRAULICS Ltd 16 Oct 1974 [19 Oct 1973] 48739/73 Headings F1A and F1D A hydraulic pump or intensifier comprises a differential piston 4, Fig. 2 reciprocated in cylinders 26, 31 by pressurized liquid controlled by valves (2), 3 operated at or towards the end of each piston stroke by a toggle mechanism 5 connected to the piston by a rod 6 with an enlarged end 8 movable in a blind bore 7 in-the piston and engaged by the bore end 10 or an abutment 9 towards the end of each stroke. Toggle mechanism 5 acts on the valves via cams (18), 19 rollers (16), 17 and levers (14), 15. In the intensifier shown cylinder 31 has an inlet/outlet port (34), Fig. 1 (not shown), connected via a check-valve (35) and an adjustable needle valve (38), Fig. 4 (not shown), to the pressurized liquid inlet, and connected via two check-valves (36), (44) and a pressure gauge to an outlet, the supply of pressurized liquid to cylinder 31 effecting the rightward stroke of the piston while the right-hand end of cylinder 26 is connected to exhaust. The leftward piston stroke to discharge liquid from cylinder 31 is effected by pressurized liquid supplied to the right-hand end of cylinder 26. In the pump of Figs. 5 to 7 (not shown), two pairs of valves are controlled by the toggle mechanism for connecting the opposite sides of the large end of the piston alternately to a pressurized supply of a first liquid, e.g. water, and exhaust, the small end of the piston acting to pump a second liquid e.g. soluble oil, the outlets from the actuating cylinder being connected to the outlet from the pumping cylinder so that a mixture of the two liquids is delivered. The intensifier may be used for testing mine roof supports, and the pump for supplying an oil and water mixture for mine roof supports.
