Abstract
1447752 Ethylene-vinyl ester copolymers LONZA Ltd 22 Jan 1975 [28 Jan 1974] 2780/75 Heading C3P Ethylene-vinyl ester copolymers are produced by emulsion polymerization at 20-30‹ C. and an initial pH of 3-4 in the presence of a redox initiator consisting of 0À05-0À5% (based on the vinyl ester) of alkali metal or ammonium persulphate, 0À01-0À05% of ascorbic acid and 10-30 p.p.m. of a ferrous salt wherein at least 50% of the persulphate is present initially and the ascorbic acid and ferrous salt are added at a rate to maintain the temperature within 1‹ C. of the preselected value. Another monomer may be included, exemplified being vinyl chloride, dibutyl maleate, ethyl acrylate and methylol acrylamide.
