Abstract
1446059 Automatic control of IC engine exhaust composition ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 27 Sept 1973 [28 Sept 1973] 45204/73 Heading G3R A device for controlling the composition of the exhaust of an internal combustion engine includes a regulator controlling the fuel-air ratio to the engine in accordance with a measured exhaust composition, the control range of the regulator being adjusted if the regulator output passes through a given threshold value. In the embodiment, a transistor switching circuit varies the duration of fuel injection to the engine according to the engine temperature as sensed by an NTC resistor the air-flow to the engine and the oxygen content of the engine exhaust. The output of the oxygen sensor is amplified, integrated in a direction according to whether the fuel-air ratio is above or below a given value, and fed as a signal 82 to the regulator, whose normal control range is 80 to 81. If under certain engine conditions e.g. when hot starting the engine, the integration for example exceeds a given value 88 the control range is shifted to between 80 and 84. When it drops below 85 the range is returned to its normal value. Similarly, if the integration falls below 87 the range may be shifted downwards. The device is described in detail with reference to Figs. 1 to 5 (not shown).
