Abstract

1444982 Coating apparatus NORDSON CORP 7 Aug 1973 [10 Aug 1972] 37449/73 Heading B2L [Also in Division B8] Apparatus for applying sealing material to closure caps comprises at least one extrusion gun 70 having a nozzle 74 having a plurality of parallel equispaced vertically disposed dischange orifices 86 from which droplets of seal material are simultanecusly delivered. As shown closure caps 13 are fed in stepwise motion on a conveyor 43 and their presence detected by a detector 56 which through a control unit allows pressurized air through conduits 54, 54a to piston chambers 58, 58a to cause pistons 61, 61a to move against the action of springs 66 66a respectively to open valves 77, 77a and allow egress of pressurised coating material. A pump 90 forces coating material from a reservoir 89 to chamber 64 and when valve 77 is opened material passes to the outlets 86. The other gun operates in a similar manner The distribution of the openings 86 may be varied to suit different shapes to be coated. Heaters 92 are provided and the lid may be heated after coating to allow the material to flow.
