Abstract

1443928 Rotary positive displacement fluidmachines VANDERVELL PRODUCTS Ltd 25 July 1973 [25 July 1972 5 Dec 1972 22 Feb 1973] 34788/72 56162/72 and 8471/73 Heading F1F In a machine that may be an I.C. engine, compressor or pump and comprising at least one rotor with a plurality of apices and projecting seals at the apices engaging a trochoidal shaped surface in a housing 10 receiving the rotor, the housing surface is provided by liner elements 15, 16 comprising curved flexible metal strips e.g. chromium-plated steel, having an inner surface which forms at least part of a lobe of the trochoidal surface when the strip is mounted in the housing. The liner elements may be shaped to fit housing portions formed by splitting the housing along planes B, as shown, or alternatively along plane A or C. The liner elements may be longer than the housing inner periphery and fitted by cooling the elements or heating the housing. The elements may be secured by a wedging action or by interlocking projections and recesses. As shown, element 16 is located by a key 16a or by a recess 16b. Coolant passage 24 may communicate with the liner elements. Methods of forming the liner elements are described.
